Archival material from the Athens City Archives was used in the new digital project “Next Stop” (https://epomenistasi.com). This initiative constitutes an original urban mapping project that explores the history, evolution, and collective memory of the city, using the names of public transport stops as its starting point.
The digital platform was created by the ANOMIA group. It operates under the auspices and financial sponsorship of the Ministry of Culture, with support from ΝΕΟΝ.
Through archival research, the collection of oral history, and on-site observation, the project approaches the names of stops not merely as transit points, but as traces of the urban geography, framed within lived experience. Historical documents intersect with contemporary artistic transcriptions from the visual arts, music, cinema, dance, and spoken word, resulting in a composite digital archive (comprising audiovisual material and historical archives) that bridges the past with the present.
The project does not constitute a static research repository; rather, it functions as an interactive model. It invites passengers, residents, and visitors of the city to contribute their own memories, photographs, and narratives, continuously enriching its content.
