Periklis Kourkoumelis was a civil engineer, a graduate of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), and a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TCG).
The Periklis Kourkoumelis Collection comprises 57 volumes of the journal Technika Chronika (Technical Annals), covering the years 1932–1972 (Volume XXXII is missing). The journal Technika Chronika has been a scientific publication of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TCG) since 1932, and its printed edition served for decades as a means of information and communication for its members with the Administration, institutions, and the scientific community. It enjoyed a continuous run, with a hiatus during the years of the German Occupation, and played a significant role in showcasing the multidimensional work of Greek engineers over time. It is worth noting that today it has been transformed by the TCG into an international electronic scientific journal under the title Technical Annals and, in collaboration with the National Documentation Centre (EKT), promotes the Engineering Sciences.
The collection held by the Historical and Municipal Archives contains original and research papers, applied studies, and projects from the historic printed journal. It is divided into two sectors:
- Constructional, covering subjects of: Civil Engineering, Rural and Surveying Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning, and Regional Planning.
- Industrial, covering subjects of: Electrical Engineering, Electronic and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Mining and Metallurgical Engineering.
The Periklis Kourkoumelis Collection was acquired by the Department in 2015, following a donation by his daughter Christina Kourkoumeli.
