A visual and historical journey through the gradual transformation of Athens from a small provincial town under Ottoman rule to the reborn capital of Greece, claiming both the memory of its ancient glory and its place in the modern world. The album was curated by former Deputy Mayor of Athens, Eleftherios Skiadas, and is based on the original handmade album “with photographs of the principal ancient and modern edifices of the city of Athens,” published by the Municipality of Athens under the title “ATHEN” in 1888, in Munich.
